GPON is presently operating in the Northeastern regional part of Nigeria where we have reached over 100,000 lives with relief materials, child protection services. GBV mitigation services, livelihood skill-building, health services, and Education support services.

About the project
This project, funded by the Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance (BHA) through the International Organization for Migration (IOM), focuses on a 3-month emergency flood response in GGASS Camp located in Mafa and Benishek, Kaga Local Government Area (LGA), Maiduguri.
The primary aim is to deliver immediate WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) support to the flood-affected populations in these LGAs.
Position Overview
The Wash Officer will be responsible for implementing and monitoring water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) activities within GPON’s programs.
This role involves ensuring the delivery of high-quality WASH interventions that meet the needs of the target population and adhere to both organizational and donor standards.
The WASH Officer will work closely with community members, local authorities, and other stakeholders to ensure the success of WASH initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Program Implementation:
Coordinate and implement WASH activities in target communities, including water supply, sanitation, and hygiene promotion interventions.
Ensure that all WASH activities are implemented in accordance with project work plans, budgets, and quality standards.
Conduct assessments to identify WASH needs and contribute to the design of appropriate interventions.
Technical Support:
Provide technical support in the design and implementation of water supply systems, sanitation facilities, and hygiene promotion activities.
Oversee the construction, rehabilitation, and maintenance of WASH infrastructure, ensuring compliance with technical specifications and safety standards.
Develop and deliver training sessions on WASH practices and technologies for community members and other stakeholders.
Community Engagement:
Engage with community leaders and members to promote participation in WASH activities and ensure the sustainability of interventions.
Facilitate the formation and training of water management committees to manage and maintain WASH infrastructure.
Promote good hygiene practices through awareness campaigns, workshops, and community-led initiatives.
Monitoring and Evaluation:
Monitor the progress and impact of WASH activities, ensuring that they meet project objectives and contribute to improved health outcomes.
Collect and analyze data on WASH indicators, and prepare regular reports for internal and external stakeholders.
Participate in program reviews and contribute to the identification of lessons learned and best practices.
Coordination and Collaboration:
Coordinate with other sectors within the organization (e.g., Health, Nutrition, Protection) to ensure the integration of WASH activities.
Collaborate with local authorities, NGOs, and other partners to align WASH interventions with broader community development plans.
Represent [Organization Name] in WASH coordination meetings, working groups, and forums at the local and regional levels.
Compliance and Reporting:
Ensure that all WASH activities comply with donor requirements, organizational policies, and national/international standards.
Prepare and submit timely reports on WASH activities, including progress updates, challenges, and success stories.
Maintain accurate records of project activities, expenditures, and achievements.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, Public Health, or a related field. A Master’s degree is an added advantage.
Experience: At least 3-5 years of experience in implementing WASH programs, preferably in humanitarian or development settings.
Technical Skills: Strong technical knowledge of WASH infrastructure, hygiene promotion, and water resource management.
Field Experience: Experience working in remote or conflict-affected areas, with a focus on community-based WASH interventions.
Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze data, monitor program progress, and make informed decisions to improve program quality.
Donor Compliance:
Participate in developing donor proposals budgets and reporting to ensure they are delivered promptly in accordance with donor requirements
Skills:
Language Skills: Proficiency in English (both written and spoken). Knowledge of the local language is an advantage.
Flexibility: Willingness to travel frequently to field sites and work in challenging environments.
Salary and Conditions
In accordance with GPON Terms of Employment. The income will be subject to statutory deductions as per applicable Nigerian laws.
The employee is responsible for the tax returns.
